Types of Mentors
We are looking for all types of mentors with professional or entrepreneurial experience.
An ideal mentor would include those with:
- extensive experience in the are or industry of mentorship;
- excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner; and
- a passion for empowering others to succeed.
Mentors must submit an application or proposal to be a mentor within our Academy at TheBusinessProfessor.com
Your application should include the following components:
- Professional Biography: A summary of your professional background, highlighting relevant experience and accomplishments. You may provide this information via your CV or LinkedIn profile.
- Proposed Area of Mentorship: Provide us with details about the industry in which you have experience and your ability to mentor community members. For example, “I am a career SAAS sales representative. I can mentor individuals looking to pursue a career in B2B technology or SAAS sales.” This should be evidenced by your Professional Biography.
- Availability: Information on your availability for mentoring sessions. You should indicate the days and hours each week that you can designate for members to reserve mentorship appointments.
- Pricing: Please indicate the hourly rate that you plan to charge members for your mentorship services. (For example, “I charge $200 per hour with a minimum of 1 hr session length”.) Note: This should be the price to members, exclusive of the percentage charged by our platform.
- Availability for Interview: All mentors are required to submit to an extensive, recorded interview about yourself and your career. This interview will be available in a CareerTV media for members to view. Depending upon your physical availability, the interview may be conducted in person or via internet.
- Contact Information/Website/Social Media: Please include relevant contact information (email, telephone), website, and primary social media profiles.
We collect 15% of the rate charged for mentorship sessions to support the continued development and operation of the platform. (Note: This 15% includes the fees charged by payment service providers facilitating payments by members).
For example, if you charge an hourly rate of $100. We receive payment of $100 prior to the scheduled mentoring session. Following delivery of the mentoring session, we direct payment of $85 to the mentor via the method designated during the onboarding process.
To be a mentor in our community, you must agree to the following:
- Agree to abide by the to terms of use and privacy provisions of a website.
- Undergo an initial mentor training session (via webcast) concerning how to use the platform, software, acceptable practices, payment of fees, scheduling, etc.
- Provide necessary work authorization and tax reporting information.
- Respond in a timely manner to information or scheduling requests from members our our team.
- Conduct mentorship sessions via this platform (no off-platform mentoring).
- Complete a recorded interview that will be available to members in the CareerTV channel.
- Avoid soliciting members for personal reasons outside the mission of our community. For example, mentors should not solicit members to make purchases, becomes a sales agent, invest or work in a business opportunity controlled by the mentor, etc.
- Never promote breaking the law or taking advantage of others.
We want to help our community members.
More specifically, we aim to empower current and aspiring business professionals across the globe. We do this by providing a comprehensive array of business and career resources available. Mentorship is perhaps the most valuable component of this mission.
As a mentor, you provide incredible value to those who seek the wisdom you’ve acquired through your education and career exploits. As such, we want you to be open and forthcoming in sharing that acquired knowledge with your mentees.
Necessarily, we look to facilitate mentorship with professionals who are willing to share their acquired knowledge and experience with those who need this information.
Mentors do not need to be a business subject-matter expert or professional coach. NOTE: This is mentoring – not coaching.
We are looking for individuals with extensive experience working in a career field or in building or operating businesses in any industry.
Professions in business-specific careers might include: finance, marketing, operations, accounting, law, etc.
Valuable industries might include: After-School Care, Animal-Pet Services, Animation, Architecture/Design, Art Industry, Athletic/Fitness – Training, Community-centric Businesses, Fashion, Food Service/Restaurant, Graphic Design, Home Construction/Lawn Care, Manufacturing, Music/Publishing/Record Label, Professional Services, Real Estate, Retail, etc.

Mentors choose an hourly rate to charge for mentorship services. The mentoring sessions are booked on an hourly basis by mentees through our website.
We collect payment in advance. Mentors generally receive payment for services within 7 days of the mentoring session.
The process for choosing mentors to include in our Academy is generally as follows:
- Review submitted application. (We review mentor applications on a rolling basis.)
- Contact the mentor to arrange a preliminary video conference interview.
- Schedule and record a CareerTV episode exploring the mentor’s career.
- Execute an independent contractor agreement with mentor for services on the platform.
- Enroll mentor in our scheduling system (headshot, availability, payment & tax information, etc.)
At the end of this process, the mentor’s profile is published with the Academy and available for mentoring sessions.
Availability – Mentors must make a certain amount of time available each week for members to schedule meetings through our system.
Scheduling – Mentors review and accept/reject requests for meetings during the identified available times. Mentors should avoid scheduling conflicts that interrupt the accepted meeting time – as rescheduling after payment can be difficult.
Meetings – Mentors connect with members during the aloted time via video-conference.
Preparation – The mentor should read the general request for mentorship submitted by the member prior to the start of the meeting. During these meetings, mentors should be prepared to answer mentee questions to the best of thier ability. They must offer their personal experiences and insights to educate or inform the mentee.

Mentees generally offer numerous types of value to our members, including:
- General Mentorship: Offering one-on-one guidance to help members set and achieve career goals, overcome challenges, and make informed decisions.
- Expert Advice: Sharing knowledge on specific business domains, industry trends, and best practices.
- Career Development: Assisting members in identifying opportunities for growth, skill development, networking resume building, and other career or industry preparation.
Yes. Mentors are required to sign an independent contractor agreement with The Business Professor, LLC as part of the onboarding process.
This is not an exclusive contract. The contract simply ensures that mentors comply with the terms outline in these FAQs.
Further, mentors can leave our community at any time be giving us notice and taking the steps necessary to off board.
